What is a crown?

A crown is a cap, cover, or restoration replacing the portion of the tooth exposed in the mouth. A porcelain crown is an all ceramic restoration. A porcelain fused to metal crown(PFM) is made of porcelain and metal. The entire undersurface is usually metal with the exterior being tooth coloured.
